I saw the post-game protests and police response with horror. The "F*** Wisconsin" chants were disgusting (as Wisconsin played a solid, honorable game, and beat us fairly). However, I was more disturbed by the heavily militarized police response. Clearly these were teens/kids in their young 20's letting off steam. The best practice in this scenario is to let them vent, and keep a distance. Shooting guns with pepper bags, slaming the lady into the concrete, and otherwise treating the protestors as armed militia was over-kill and is a sad commentary of the military-like nature our police forces have become (ala the Albuquerque incident of late). Unfortunately, most of these police only know "offense" and don't have the sensibility to distinguish between jay-walking like crimes and more serious life threatening offenses. I hope Tucson reviews its procedures and fires/brings charges against some of these police.
