#13 Arizona Wildcats vs. UCLA Bruins Game Thread

We're back in McKale and the media tables are getting a bit smaller with the Bruins in town.

Pregame: After a 7 game win streak the Wildcats look to bounce back from a loss in Washington, who better to do so than a national brand such as UCLA.

1ST HALF

- Holiday opens up the scoring for the Bruins with a contested layup, a couple of possessions later he extends the lead to four with a breakaway layup in transition. DeAndre Ayton sinks the first basket for Arizona with a mid range hit. Wilkes with a nice layup as well, the Cats need to step up their interior defense to slow down the easy points [SCORE UPDATE: Arizona 3 UCLA 8 - 15:48 1ST]

- Alkins with a near steal loses the ball, UCLA recovers and Wilkes knocks down the second chance opportunity with a midrange pull up. Dylan Smith with an instant contribution off the bench with a three point make. Pinder hits a hook shot from under the basket, Hands responds on the other end; PJC knocks in a three ball of his own and the Wildcats have scored on 4 of their last 5 FG attempts. [SCORE UPDATE: Arizona 13 UCLA 14 - 11:34 1ST]

- Ristic continuing his confidence on offense scoring on a deep midrange jumper, he's really turned it on in the back half of this season. Trier scores on an awkward shot driving to the basket. The Wildcats are on top and on an offensive tear; 12-2 run in favor of the Cats over the last 3:30. Fun game to watch here in McKale you can tell these teams love to compete against one another. - Olesinski converts on two free throws to open up play after the media timeout. Dylan Smith hits a three to answer for the Cats. Ali responds with two of his own. UCLA is 0-6 from deep, Arizona at 44% on 4-9 respectively. Pinder posterizes Goloman off of an inbound play under the UCLA basket. Ayton adds to the highlight show with a big put back off of a Alkins three point miss. Welsh answers with a much needed three for the Bruins that momentarily quiets McKale. [SCORE UPDATE: Arizona 27 UCLA 27 - 3:43 1ST]

- Trier with a one handed dunk in transition. Ayton gets his own miss and lays it in. Holiday scores for UCLA putting them back on top, great back and forth contest right now. Prince Ali hits a three for the Bruins, Hands follows suit with one of his own; Jaylen Hands feeling himself with a deep three on a very quick possession making that two in a row for the former five star prospect. Make that three in a row, following a miss Hands hits a deep step back three before time expires. Jaylen Hands single handedly puts together a 9-0 run to close the half. Big second half of the first quarter for the Bruins who are shooting 56% from the field and 50% from 3PT range, Arizona closes the first half shooting 42% from the field and 33% from deep. 2ND HALF


- Dusan Ristic starts the second half scoring with a deep two. Alkins slices through the UCLA defense with a layup. Welsh with a nice put back dunk for the Bruins to slow down the Wildcats. Ayton with a two handed jam, followed by a PJC lefty layup over Welsh, the Cats are cutting into the UCLA lead early in the second half forcing a Bruin time out. That's what the Cats needed to start the second half. [SCORE UPDATE: Arizona 44 UCLA 48 - 15:44 2ND]

- UCLA lead back up to 10 following the time out... make that 12 with an easy Bruins lay up. Pinder hits both of his free throws and Alkins hits a three to cut into the UCLA lead. Allonzo Trier with a big dunk in transition off the assist from Alkins. [SCORE UPDATE: Arizona 51 UCLA 60 - 10:31 2ND]

- Arizona playing their way out of this one at home, before Ristic's and one conversion the Wildcats were 1 of their last 8 from the field. Trier hits a three after a UCLA 2pt make. PJC hits a three of his own which gets the fans on their feet and some energy back in the building; UCLA's Goloman answers with a three for the Bruins. [SCORE UPDATE: Arizona 60 UCLA 72 - 2ND]

- Trier drops a UCLA defender with a jab step then steps back to convert a three pointer. Ayton drops in a layup from right under the basket. Arizona just can't cut deep enough into the Bruins lead despite some big shots made, UCLA continues to make the baskets they need to hold on. DeAndre Ayton is 6-18 from the field with only two free throw attempts. Goloman might've just hit the three ball that'll put the Wildcats away for the second time in as many games. Akot cuts through the defense converting on a layup and drawing the foul to go with it, three point play is good. [FINAL SCORE: Arizona 74 UCLA 82]
