Arizona has landed a commitment from Southwestern University transfer Austin Smith today according to Kendall Rogers from D1Baseball.com. The right-handed pitcher will be making the move from Division III team in Texas to Tucson. Rogers recently watched Smith in person and said he reached 98 miles per hour on the radar gun.
As everyone knows, pitching has been the weak spot for Arizona baseball in recent years, but Nate Yeskie has been able to help the group improve and getting some more quality arms on the staff is only going to help. Smith had been planning to play at Oklahoma but the Wildcats moved in and pulled him away. While it has not been made clear, the feeling is he will have the opportunity to play right away at UA. He will be a senior next season.
